Christmas Markets are all over Budapest, and even though the most visited is the Christmas market on Vorosmarty Square (the oldest fair), there are multiple venues to see some more Budapest Christmas markets. We encourage you to take a look at more of them, such as the Xmas at the Basilica, or the fair on the courtyard of Vajdahunyad Castle, etc., and the Christmas fair on Budapest Erzsebet Ter (Elisabeth Square).

The name of the fair in 2012 is Karacsonyi Zsivaj (Christmas Racket). There will be many retro things as well as fire jugglers, concerts, and more. You can take a look at the many goods made by Hungarian toy makers, crafts of Hungarian designers, etc.

Venue: Erzsebet square downtown Budapest (right near Deak Square, and 5 min walk from two major Christmas markets in Budapest, the one on Vorosmarty square and the other on St Stephen’s Square by the Cathedral)

Date: December 8, 2012 (sorry, it is just a one day event as opposed to the rest of the Budapest Christmas markets)

Organizers: Szeretem Budapestet (SzeBu)

The organizers and supporters of SzeBu aim to get rid of the many – low level – graffiti signatures you can see in Budapest (amazingly a lot, and mostly no artistic value – we have nothing against Banksy!) :)

The Budapest Design Terminal Christmas Market is a design focused fair in the city centre of Budapest. For designer items, you can also visit the WAMP Winter Fair in Millenaris building.

Do you like quality design? Fashion? Art? Being stylish?

Budapest Design Terminal on Erzsebet Square in the heart of Budapest will launch its Christmas market in December to feature the works, designs, art pieces and everyday objects of approx. one hundred Hungarian designers, many of whom are considered to be the best contemporary designers in Hungary.

Of course, the pieces on display are for sale and can make a really special Christmas gift from your Budapest winter visit.

The December design fair will be held in the heated gallery of the Design Terminal, 2 min walk from Deak Square.

You cannot miss the building guarded by two strange wooden dogs, sort of like quirky Trojan Dobermans.

As Erzsebet Ter (Elisabeth Square) is one of the central hubs of the city of Budapest, no wonder that there are several events, programs on this square during the Advent weeks before Christmas too.

First of all, there is a smaller scale Budapest Christmas Fair on Erzsebet Square, which seems to be merged with the Christmas stalls of the Fashion Street and then onwards to the big Budapest Christmas market on Vorosmarty Square. These three Xmas sights are in theory 3 separate events but fuse into a continuous Christmas festival by proximity.

Then there is the Budapest Design Terminal, a center of contemporary design with frequent installations, exhibitions and fairs. Budapest Design Terminal Christmas comes in early December every year.

Club Aquarium, the underground trendy club on Erzsebet Square offers various programs and concerts for the younger generation, with hiphop, rock, punk, world music, rap, etc. events. Some of them are directly Christmas themed, but most simply offer the daily clubbing experience as a focal point of Budapest downtown nightlife. Here is a nice photo of the club / bar at night in chilly December weather in Budapest (in summer picture this place with hundreds of people happily enjoying the summer evenings with drinks and chats)

In the background of the photo, you can see the domes and towers of the biggest Catholic cathedral in Budapest called the St Stephen’s Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika) where there is the Budapest Basilica Christmas market, within a few minutes walk from Erzsebet Square and Vorosmarty Square.
