Budapest Outdoor Ice Rink in the City Park
The huge open air Ice Rink of Budapest is on the top 10 list of Lonely Planet as one of the best places in Europe in winter time, paired with a warm bath in the Budapest baths, and a visit to the cool and hip ruin bars, some of the best bars in Budapest.
There are many fun winter things to do in Budapest, but one of the best ones is surely the popular Budapest Outdoor Ice Rink in the City Park, aka Varosligeti Mujegpalya.
True, several Budapest Christmas Markets feature a smaller artificial skating rink, like the St Stephen’s Basilica Christmas Market in Budapest city centre (200 sq metre), or the Obuda Christmas Market in Obuda district (Buda side).
But if you want to feel the space in a breathtaking place, the Ice Rink Palace in the City Park with its enormous open air Skating Rink is a must see, must do.
While the gigantic ice rink in the Varosliget park of Budapest is an innocent lake boat in the summer time, in winter time it turns into a popular venue for skating, skiing, learning to skate, parties and more.
In the photo below, you can see the Vajdahunyad Castle in the background (in December one of the Budapest Christmas Markets opens at the Vajdahunyad Var, see Vajdahunyad Castle Christmas Market)
The palace of the enormous Outdoor Ice Rink is a heated place where you can get changed, rent skates, drink some hot drinks, etc.
