If you see crazily dressed people on the streets of Budapest in freezing December weather, sort of beach Santa Claus guys and girls running along, please be aware that barely clothed Santas did not go nuts, just participate in a special charity event raising funds for the annual charity organisation: the Santa Claus Charity Jogging in Budapest is an over a decade long tradition and you can join more Santa Charity Runs for a good chilly jogging for a good cause!
Santa Claus Jogging Budapest -for Children in Need
The PENNY Santa Run hosted by the official city organisations, BSI, Budapest’s Sports Office, annually is a large scale festive charity event where participants run in Santa costumes provided by the organizers. In recent years thousands of runners participated in this cheerful run!
Date of Penny Santa Run: 8th December, 2024
Runners can choose from a variety of distances, including 5 km, 2.3 km, and a 1 km route perfect for families and kids.
All participants will receive a medal at the finish line, adding a memorable touch to the Christmas Santa Charity Run holiday experience.

The smaller GoActive Charity Run is also for a good cause. Do join them if you are a regular runner and can bear the cold for a bit of love. The charity jogging is for children with special needs, any donations will go into helping kids through the Magic Lamp Fund (Csodalampa Alapitvany) or other Children charities.

After the jogging, the participants head to the Szechenyi Baths to enjoy the warmth of the embracing thermal waters and the sauna.
Meeting point: Gozsdu Courtyard in Budapest city centre near Deak Square (between 13 Kiraly Str. and 16 Dob Str.). Pre-registration is a must.
Date: early December (around 9th or 10th depending on how the days fall for the weekend)
Running time: from 2pm to 3pm, approx. 45 minutes
Running route: Gozsdu Courtyard, Chain Bridge, Vaci utca shopping street, back to Gozsdu Courtyard
Registration fee: HUF 5,000 (only 150 can register, so hurry up to be part of this wonderfully crazy event)
