The Hungarian National Library is not simply the biggest library in Hungary, but it is also the venue of smaller, niche exhibitions, e.g. it often hosts all sorts of arts exhibitions (not just related to books, reading), e.g. Herend porcelain exhibition, fine art exhibitions of contemporary Hungarian artists, vintage Hungarian posters are also often on display, etc.
The National Library is situated in the Buda Castle in Budapest by the Lions’ Courtyard, right next to the Budapest History Museum. In general, you can visit the library and its exhibitions with a special daily visitor pass for a few Euros. The question is if you can visit the library around Christmas and New Year’s time.
The opening hours of the Hungarian National Library (Orszagos Szechenyi Konyvtar) during the winter holidays are as follows:
From December 1 to December 23 the opening times of the biggest Hungarian library are as usual, after all, this is also the exam period in Hungarian universities when the library is usually the most visited by students, researchers, PhDs, etc.
