Budapest Outdoor Ice Rink in the City Park
The huge open air Ice Rink of Budapest is on the top 10 list of Lonely Planet as one of the best places in Europe in winter time, paired with a warm bath in the Budapest baths, and a visit to the cool and hip ruin bars, some of the best bars in Budapest. There are many fun winter things to do in Budapest, but one of the best ones is surely the popular Budapest Outdoor Ice Rink in the City Park, aka Varosligeti Mujegpalya.
True, several Budapest Christmas Markets feature a smaller artificial skating rink, like the St Stephen’s Basilica Christmas Market in Budapest city centre (200 sq metre), or the Obuda Christmas Market in Obuda district (Buda side). But if you want to feel the space in a breathtaking place, the Ice Rink Palace in the City Park with its enormous open air Skating Rink is a must see, must do. While the gigantic ice rink in the Varosliget park of Budapest is an innocent lake boat in the summer time, in winter time it turns into a popular venue for skating, skiing, learning to skate, parties and more.

Merry Christmas! We were there a couple weeks ago! (nov 1st), but the ice skating was not there yet. It is sooooo lovely to go there! Enjoy your time!
Hi we are visiting Feb 8th to 13th will the ice rink still be open then?
Hello Leighann,
Thank you for your inquiry.
Yes, the Ice Skating ring is usually open until the end of February.
Have fun in Budapest!
Dear all,
My name is Mohammed and I will be visiting Budapest from 11 to 18 November. When the Christamas markets will be opening this year? And when the ice rinks will open ?
Thanks
Hello Mohammed,
thank you for contacting us.
The Vorosmarty square Christmas Fair is expected to open from 11 November in 2019, while the Christmas Fair at St Stephen’s Basilica is opening on 25 November, 2019.
The City Park Ice Rink usually opens in the middle of November, weather dependent, but Nov is a cold month so if no weird warm spells arrive, it should work in November.
Have a great time in winter Budapest.
Hi. I’m wanting to book on the ice skating on the 24th December, can you please advise how to do so. Thanks Claire

Have a great time on the ice rinks of Budapest!
Hi for the ice skating do you have to pay for the entry ticket price and the skate rental?
Thanks
Hello Chenelle, Yes the City Park Ice Skating Rink is a fee paying professional rink maintained and well kept, with a beautiful palace for skate rental and more. Although it is not free, it is quite reasonably priced compared to any similar scenic ice rinks in Europe (we believe it is the best in Europe though!)
